VARIETY AND STYLE
Single vineyard, dry, Italian style of Pinot gris blushed to gold on the skins. 100% pinot gris grown entirely at Jurassic Ridge home vineyard on Waiheke island. Hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed and lees-aged for 6 months, making this a bolder fuller-bodied style than many of the typically lean Italian Grigios. A stonking great, full flavoured and rich, fruity Pinot Grigio!
Crystal clear and bright straw gold with elder flower, pear, dried apricot and almond aromas on the nose and refreshingly dry with apple, citrus, nashi pear and spice on the palate.
Food match: Seafood, chicken and vegetarian dishes. Best at 13-14 degrees C
2012 was an excellent vintage at Church Bay and the pinot gris that was harvested had good flavours and ripeness.
The vines were in their 9th year and were reduced at green harvest to a low crop of just 1.5kg off each vine.
The fruit was selectively hand-picked at 21.2 Brix in the cool of the early morning , chilled overnight to 10 degrees C, destemmed and lightly crushed. The juice was left on the skins for several hours before racking off, light pressing and cold settling. After cold settling overnight the juice was racked off again and cold fermented at 12-15 degrees in stainless steel. After the ferment it was lees-aged for 9 months before bottling.
