Single vineyard, Pinot Gris blush wine, blushed from white to gold on skins and fermented dry to the fresh and zingy Italian style.
Crystal clear, bright gold. Elder flower, pear, dried apricot and almond aromas on the nose, easy drinking, refreshing and dry with apple, citrus, nashi pear and spice.
Great with seafood pastas, scallops or shellfish. Serve at 12 to 13 degrees C.
2011 was a challenging vintage due to untimely rains but the pinot gris that was harvested was in good condition with good flavours and levels of ripeness.
The vines were in their 7th year and were reduced to a low crop of just 0.5 tonnes off 400 vines. The scions are grafted onto low-vigour phylloxera-resistant rootstock (3309), and hand-planted with close spacing and low fruiting wires in our North facing, North sloping block approximately 80m above sea level into drained clay soils over deep clay and underlying 155 million year old Jurassic rock.
The fruit was selectively hand-picked at 21.2 Brix in the cool of the early morning , chilled overnight to 10 degrees C, destemmed and lightly crushed. The juice was left on the skins for several hours before racking off, light pressing and cold settling. After cold settling overnight the juice was racked off again and and cold fermented at 12-15 degrees in stainless steel. After the ferment it was lees-aged in barrel with lees-stirring for 9 months before racking off and bottling.
